Bill has worked in the port sector for 40 years and has over 30 years experience in trade analysis and port traffic forecasting. He has developed a unique methodology for forecasting traffic flows at the port, national and regional level using advanced statistical techniques that have been used in a wide range of projects worldwide over that period as part of consultancy projects. This model has been adapted and extended by the team to add stand-alone use and ‘what if’ capacity.
Bill’s economic and financial appraisals of port development projects have also incorporated ship cost models and berth optimisation techniques, together with risk analysis for the identification of optimum project selection. He was a founding partner in 1985 of Baxter Eadie Ltd. a UK based port consulting business that was acquired by BMT in 2007.
His previous experience includes working as a mathematical statistician in the chemical and electricity industries, in CERN (the international high energy physics laboratory), and in the public sector in the UK Department of Energy, and as Chief Statistician for the National Ports Council.
